How it works

From a bank statement to a plan you can print.

Five short steps. You type the numbers, you check them, and the planner does the arithmetic in your browser. We never receive your documents.

What you need

  • A recent statement for each account your parent's care will be paid from: checking, savings, CDs, brokerage, and retirement accounts. You only need the ending balance.
  • The facility's monthly cost, from an invoice or the rate sheet. Use the full amount, with care fees included.
  • Monthly income, if you have it: Social Security, a pension, annuity payments. This one is optional.

A laptop or desktop is easiest with paperwork beside you. The planner also works on a tablet or a phone. You do not need an account, an app, or an AI key.

1. Pay once

Checkout is a Stripe page. The price is $49 for the first five founding families, then $149, once. There is no subscription and nothing renews by itself. Stripe sees the buyer name, email, and payment. It does not see bank statements, balances, or health information.

Your license arrives by email from a person, not from an automated mailer, so it can take some hours. If it has not arrived by the next day, check your spam folder and write to us.

2. Open your license link

The email has one link. Opening it unlocks the planner in your browser. The key travels in the part of the address after the # sign, which a browser never sends to a server, and the planner takes it out of the address bar once it has read it.

The license is checked inside your browser, against a public key that is built into the page. There is no account to create and no password to remember. If you change computers, open the same link there.

3. Enter the numbers

Choose the state where your parent receives care, then type four things:

  1. Your parent's name, which is printed on the plan and used nowhere else.
  2. Each account and its balance.
  3. The facility's monthly cost.
  4. Monthly income, or leave it blank.

A blank is never turned into a zero. If you leave income out, the plan counts none, says so in plain words, and calls the answer a lower bound.

Optional: let a file do some of the typing

A text PDF or a CSV can be opened in the planner, and it is read inside your browser. A photo or a scanned page needs an AI service that you connect with your own key. Only the pages you approve are sent, straight from your browser to the AI provider you chose, and never to us. You can skip all of this and type the numbers.

4. Check every figure

Before anything is calculated, the planner shows you each figure and asks you to check it against the paper in front of you. Calculate stays off until every required figure is checked. A figure read from a scan is always checked one at a time.

You also type the yearly increase in the facility's rate. The best source is the facility itself: ask how much rates went up last year. The plan prints your figure as your assumption, and shows the same plan two points lower and two points higher.

Choosing Calculate freezes the checked figures into a snapshot. The plan reads only that snapshot. If you change a figure afterwards, the old plan is withdrawn until you calculate again, so a printed plan can never disagree with the numbers behind it.

5. Read your plan

The plan opens on one number: how many months of facility bills are covered in full. Then:

  • Dates to act on. Twelve months left, six months left, the month the money runs short, and a re-check every quarter. One file adds them to your calendar with reminders.
  • The runway chart and the month-by-month table. Opening balance, income, the facility bill, and what is left, for every month.
  • What happens if the rate rises slower or faster.
  • An action checklist and the questions to ask a facility before you sign.
  • What the plan leaves out, listed plainly.
  • A page for the attorney. Accounts, costs, income, and assumptions on one sheet, with the questions to ask.

Print it, or save it as a PDF from the print dialog. See the sample plan

Coming back each quarter

Balances change, and so do rates. The license includes 12 months of re-runs. When you come back, the planner still has your figures, because they are kept in your browser. Update the balances and calculate again.

From the second plan on, the report compares the new figures with what the last plan expected for this month, so you can see whether the money is lasting as planned.

Your figures live in this browser on this computer. Clearing the browser's data removes them, so print or save the plan if you want a copy that does not depend on the browser. A link at the foot of every page erases everything on purpose.

What the plan leaves out

The plan tells you how long the savings last and when to act. It does not say when Medicaid could start, or whether your parent qualifies. A spouse, a home, gifts to family, taxes, and other monthly expenses are not in the math yet. The plan lists each of these as a question for an elder-law attorney instead of guessing.

Planning education, not legal, financial, or medical advice. Not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.
